NCSPA Upcoming Professional Learning

The NCSPA Equity Committee is hosting a book study! Participants will read and discuss Schooltalk by Mica Pollock |

Due to the 2027 NASP Convention being in Charlotte in February 2027, we will not be hosting our traditional Fall Conference in 2026. Instead, we will have just one day of in-person professional learning. Then, that evening, we will have a celebratory awards gala. You can attend just the professional learning, just the gala, or both!

How can universal mental health screening help schools not only identify students’ needs, but also understand and address the conditions that shape those needs? This question serves as the foundation for this presentation, which calls for a shift from traditional, student-centered approaches to universal mental health screening that primarily focus on identifying individual risk or deficits toward more equitable, systems-oriented approaches that account for the broader contexts and cultures in which students develop and function. By expanding the purpose of screening beyond identifying who may need support to also examining the conditions that contribute to students’ social, emotional, and behavioral functioning, schools can use screening data to inform both individualized supports and broader changes to environments, practices, and systems.
